Matauri Bay, Northland, New Zealand, September 19, 2006 - Kauri Cliffs Lodge is nearing completion of its $1.7 million, 3,200 square foot, state-of-the-art Spa slated to open December 1, 2006. The complex will boast one of the most spectacular spas in the world.

Nestled in a native Totara forest and a short walk from the guest cottages, the spa is approached by three wooded paths which wind through the natural bush and converge at the entrance. Upon entering the antique honed marble foyer, bordered by an exotic orchid and fern garden, the eye is immediately drawn to the "Femme au balcon" (after Pablo Picasso), a superb 84 x 63 inch tapestry.

Four treatment rooms each open on to their own relaxing private courtyard with fireplace (for those cool evenings), overlooking a garden and meandering stream and set within a beautiful stand of native trees and ferns. Treatments may be taken indoors or "al fresco".

For the ultimate indulgence the Signature Room, catering to couples, boasts its own Jacuzzi and chaise lounge built for two. The spacious Jacuzzi is designed for treatments "a deux" which include mud, seaweed or rose petals baths, and looks out on a private fern garden.

Careful attention has been paid to every detail of the contemporary design and layout including the soothing muted colors and rich textures which create a mood of total serenity. Top of the line fixtures from exclusive purveyors such as Kohler (rain head showers) and Spazio Casa marble, round out the feeling of total luxury.

Internationally qualified therapists will be available to pamper guests. Individual treatments or special quarter, half or full day packages consisting of massage, body treatments, facials, manicures, pedicures, reflexology, Vichy water treatments and personalized yoga sessions are offered. The Spa complex contains a full gym and a 100 foot heated lap pool, his and hers locker rooms, a cedar sauna, indoor/outdoor spa pool and a state of the art wet room for Vichy and body treatments, and is only a stone's throw away from two Astroturf tennis courts.
